The Texas Professional Development group, known as “Texas PD,” was formed in 2006 by former and current PDC members, Amy Sladczyk Hancock, Cindy Lindsley, Kelly Mixon Morgan, and Tammy Patterson. The Texas group currently numbers approximately 40 members.  The Texas group welcomes anyone with PD-related functions or responsibilities (or the interest in acquiring some) to attend our meetings.  We have a solid mix of PD Directors, Managers, and those at the Assistant or Coordinator levels as members.  Our membership has expanded includes participants from all sizes of law firms in our membership ranks.  We meet quarterly alternating our meetings between Austin, Dallas and Houston and provide dial-in and/or video-conferencing capabilities between locations, for those that can’t travel and join us, in-person at the host locations.

Upcoming Events:

Please join us LIVE at Norton Rose Fulbright in Dallas (or via video conference in Houston and conference call to other cities) at noon on Wednesday, November 9 for a program designed to support you and your team in helping new laterals assimilate – and succeed – at your firm!

Consultant and former NYC recruitment/development director, Carolyn Wehmann, will lead a lively discussion to help us evaluate what is – and isn’t – working and how to get better results from the efforts you and your firm are making to help new lateral hires succeed.  What do new laterals really need after they come on board? What are the most effective ways to include them -- on personal and practice group levels? Please bring your own questions and concerns to this fast-paced conversation to explore how you can move your lateral integration results in a positive direction.

Topics will include:

  • The Linear View: What’s Working re: Orientation and Early Integration?
  • The Longer View: How to Maintain ‘Integration Momentum’ Over Time
  • Ten Tips for Energizing Lateral Success and Retention Rates

Carolyn Wehmann is an innovative and engaging professional with substantive knowledge of recruiting, talent assessment and career coaching. She is a trusted expert in the practical aspects of lawyer recruitment, selection and career development, having spent 30 years working with lawyers and managers, including the leaders of U.S. and Canadian law firms, law schools and universities -- and the people they recruit. A Connecticut Yankee and Smith College graduate, she works at a NYC pace from the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in Greenville, SC.
