Manager of Professional Development

The Manager of Professional Development will be responsible for managing professional development programs critical to the career progression of attorneys. This position is part of our Attorney Development team and will report to the Director of Attorney Development. The position is advertised in Boston, but we welcome applications from excellent candidates in New York, Washington, DC, San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco as well.

Collaboration with team members is an important component of any role at Mintz. Therefore, the firm encourages working from the office approximately 60% of the time in accordance with the firm’s published guidelines.

Absent an exemption required by law, each Mintz employee is required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Lead the overall development, design, and delivery of firm-wide training for attorneys and patent agents.

Identify and work with internal experts and external training providers to conceptualize professional skills and clinic-based training content and customize for Mintz needs.

Work with firm leadership to identify professional development needs and create and implement solutions.

Design and implement career development training, including annual Transitions Training retreats for new members and junior, mid-level, and senior associates.

Integrate the firm’s core competencies into professional development efforts.

Identify and implement new learning strategies, such as e-Learning programming.

Meet with new lateral associates and patent agents as part of the firm’s integration efforts.

Track and implement current trends and best practices in professional development.

Collaborate with Attorneys, Legal Recruiting, Attorney Development and others to ensure successful and relevant programming.

Manage the Professional Development Specialist and/or Coordinator.

Assume additional responsibilities as requested.

Bachelor’s degree required.

Minimum of seven years of experience in professional development, preferably within a professional services firm or law firm is desired.

Prior experience managing staff is required.

Demonstrated ability to motivate and develop teams.

Proven leadership and management abilities.

Demonstrated experience in employee relations, performance improvement and separations.

Outstanding sense of customer service, with demonstrated ability to instill this in others.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to influence others.

Ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment, prioritize multiple projects on a daily basis, and adjust to shifting priorities.

Strong planning, project management and organizational skills.

Strong sense of urgency.

Facility analyzing, working with and presenting data.

Ability to collaborate and gain the respect, trust, and confidence of the Firm’s attorneys and professional staff.

Possess a “hands-on” tactical approach.

Creative and proactive approach to problem solving.

Facilitate teamwork and identify opportunities to develop new processes/infrastructure.

Demonstrated ability to grasp and implement new concepts quickly.

Strong analytical abilities, resourcefulness, and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a proactive and positive style that fosters collaborative working relationships.

Deep personal commitment to integrity, excellent judgment, and the highest standards of ethics.

Must display the highest level of diplomacy, tact and discretion, with comfort in handling and maintaining confidential information.

Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.

Ability to quickly get up to speed and master new applications and software is critical.
