The Manager of Legal Personnel is responsible for supporting the Chief Legal Talent Officer and the Director of Legal Personnel & Professional Development in all aspects of departmental functions, with an emphasis on the oversight of the immigration needs for the firm’s US offices, the evaluation process and support to the Counsel and Senior Counsel Committee. This role is an integral part of the Firm’s culture and serves as a resource for all associates and counsel.

Responsibilities/Duties:

Review Process

-Collaborate with senior management and the Manager of Legal Personnel & Associate Life to support the firm-wide Bi-Annual Performance Review processes for designated practice groups and offices
-Manage the Upward Review program, including review and distribution of evaluations and various related reports and analysis

Immigration Process

-Serve as primary contact for all aspects of the immigration process for attorneys in U.S. offices, including working closely with the firm’s immigration counsel on the visa and work-authorization process
-Manage the firm’s responsibilities for Green Card (Permanent Resident Card) applications along with immigration counsel
-Supervise the International Associate Program, including liaising with the program partner facilitators, managing incoming and outgoing program participants and immigration needs
-Oversee budgets related to visas and immigration and the International Associate Program

Counsel and Senior Counsel Committee Support

-Partner with the Director and co-chairs of the Counsel Committee to oversee processes in relation to promotions, performance management & evaluations, and compensation arrangements
-Generate, maintain and distribute related statistics and reports
-Liaise with Legal Recruiting on incoming Counsel and Senior Counsel

General

-Work closely with senior management on firm-wide initiatives related to the Associates Committee and local committees as needed
-Oversee the preparation of various monthly and quarterly reports; general oversight over data relating to legal personnel, including qualitative and quantitative analysis
-Participate in exit-interviews for departing associates and ensure related data is synthesized and analyzed
-Support Associate Director and Staffing personnel on the New York Corporate Advisor program
-Serve as a resource to attorneys and provide guidance and direction on firm policies and standards
-Assist with other Legal Personnel time-bound work streams (e.g. practice group updates and compensation analysis) on a limited/as-needed basis
-Support the Chief on increasing cross-departmental functionality and cross-office communication
-Perform other duties as assigned

Required Experience

-5 to 6 years of comparable experience in legal personnel, human resources or related field
-Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact well and build professional relationships while maintaining confidentiality; collaborative approach to working with others of all seniority levels
-Ability to self-direct, manage multiple priorities, analyze needs and implement solutions
-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for both long and short-term projects and responsibilities
-Must be team oriented, contributing as needed on unexpected projects or requests
-Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint and comfortable working in web-based databases/software, e.g. viDesktop
-Flexibility to adjust hours to meet departmental needs
-Ability to provide quality service to internal members/departments of the firm as well as external clients and vendors

Preferred Experience

-Prior experience in a law firm strongly preferred
-Visa/immigration experience preferred
