Ballard Spahr LLP, a national law firm with more than 650 lawyers in 15 offices across the United States has a new and exciting high-profile position available in the Attorney Career Advancement Department. This is a terrific opportunity to play a leadership role in supporting and developing legal talent at the firm. The Firmwide Training and Development Manager will work closely with the Attorney Career Advancement Team, Directors of Practice Management, partners in charge of training and others to ensure the continued professional development of the Firm's non-partners lawyers ("NPLs"). The Manager will be the primary point of contact for the training needs of the Firm's NPLs and he or she will organize, develop and implement professional development programs, both locally and firm-wide, in collaboration with the Firm’s 15 offices, five legal departments and other administrative departments (e.g., Marketing, Diversity + Inclusion, Client Value, and the Research and Intelligence Center).

The selected individual will provide recommendations for learning experiences that increase reach, impact and future capability requirements; identify and address training needs, develop curricula and implement programs to maximize effectiveness, quality and continued professional development; innovate new methods of training aimed at delivering engaging learning experiences and develop creative and functional content to meet a program’s learning objectives.

Requirements include: a high level of collaboration within the Attorney Career Advancement Department and with attorneys; the ability to engage with people at all levels of the firm; a working knowledge of Learning Management Systems: proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, as well as the ability to adapt to new software programs.

In addition, excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral; strong interpersonal and organizational skills; the ability to work independently and prioritize to manage multiple projects; solid influencing, negotiation and facilitation skills; and the ability to foster and maintain collaborative relationships are essential to be successful in this position.

A bachelor's degree and previous experience utilizing a variety of instructional methods and training techniques including, but not limited to, curriculum design principles, adult learning theory and blended learning strategies (in-person and virtual training) are required.

Law firm and/or experience with learning and development in a professional services environment or higher education setting, preferred. Previously practicing JDs are encouraged to apply.

The position will require travel to offices throughout the country so flexibility is needed.
