Fried Frank DC Manager of Attorney Resources and Development
Position Summary:
The Manager of Attorney Resources and Development partners with all levels of Firm Management to deliver value added service to the Firm’s attorneys, with a particular emphasis on the Washington, DC office. This role acts as a primary resource to lead, motivate, develop and increase employee engagement amongst the attorneys in the DC office, including playing an integral role to ensure DC attorneys have appropriate representation on all committees. This includes bringing ideas and concerns from DC to the NY office. The committees include, but are not limited to, the Attorney Relations Committee, the Attorney Development Committee, the Diversity Committee and the DC Associates Committee.

Job Relationships:
This is a highly visible position and as such entails frequent interaction and collaboration with DC Partners, Special Counsel, Associates, Director of Attorney Resources and Development, Director of Diversity and Inclusion, Director of Professional Development and Director of Attorney Recruitment.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic HR service and counsel to partners, special counsel and associates.
• Develop best practices to reinforce culture while improving productivity and processes globally.
• Counsel/Coach (where appropriate) individual associates in connection with navigating their careers at Fried Frank.
• Support and promote a culture to build strong working relationships amongst the attorney populations in DC/NY, e.g. attorney outings, happy hours, lunches, dinners, or other social events.
• Work closely cross-functionally with the global Human Capital Management (HCM) team to enhance the full employee lifecycle experience. HCM includes, but not limited to, Attorney Resources and Development, Professional Development, Diversity and Inclusion.
• Partner and collaborate closely (where appropriate) with the Practice Management Directors.
• Manage on-boarding process for DC office partners, lateral attorneys and entry-level associates.
• Manage employee relations for DC attorneys.
• Manage and participate in meetings and forums to promote communication and input on issues of concern to associates (e.g., DC Associates Committee, Associate Relations Committee); manage follow-up projects.
• Liaise with Director of Attorney Resources and Development on all policies and procedures relating to the DC office. This includes communication of policies and ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations.
• Conduct exit interviews for all departing attorneys. Document and analyze trends or patterns that emerge through exit interview data and recommend solutions to proactively address any issues.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; JD preferred or advanced degree in relevant area, e.g., human resources, business, organizational development.

Experience: 7 to 10 years of relevant business experience in legal, professional services or financial services industry with significant expertise in delivering HR services. Relevant law firm experience is preferred but will consider those with an aptitude to work in a partnership environment.

Skills and Abilities: Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with attorneys and business services professionals; able to lead and manage a team; possess skills to develop a culture of coaching, mentoring and enablement. Strong work ethic, highly motivated, team player. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines with a flexible and professional approach. Able to manage a large workload but work to improve processes and streamline to improve efficiency. Good at setting priorities and managing multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to listen, clarify and share information easily. Able to resolve complex problems by taking a proactive approach to analyze the issues and generate solutions.

Technological Skills: Proficiency with MS Office Suite, ADP and/or other HRIS, ViDesktop.
