Attorney Development Manager

The Attorney Development Manager will work with the firm's Director of Professional Development and firm management to identify, design and implement new and ongoing strategic attorney development initiatives. Specifically, the Attorney Development Manager will be responsible for the design, implementation and management of the firm's enhanced mentoring program ("Building Bridges"). The Attorney Development Manager will also provide ongoing support to the firmwide Attorney Development Committee, including consistent collaboration with local committee chairs and liaisons. The Attorney Development Manager will also support the firm's leadership training initiatives, alternative career paths efforts and other related attorney development initiatives requiring his/her involvement.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

• Works with the Director of Professional Development and other members of the Attorney Development team to identify and address training needs, and implement firm-wide programs.
• Works with presenters to deliver effective training, including programs for summer associates, first-year associates, new counsel, new partners and firmwide orientations and retreats.
• Works with the Diversity and Inclusion Team to develop and implement specific diversity initiatives and training firm-wide and for local offices.
• Manage the exit interview process and conduct an exit interview for each departing attorney
• Works with the Associate & Counsel Committee on various professional development initiatives.
• Identifies and coordinates internal and external resources for the delivery of competency and practice related skills such as legal writing and research, communication and presentation, management and business development skills.
• Supports the attorney performance management process by working collaboratively with the Associate Counsel Evaluation Committee (ACEC) and Practice Group Chairs in identifying performance deficiencies and implementing training programs and or initiatives to address these needs.
• Works with the Director of Professional Development to manage key partner leadership programs such as the Upward Review Initiative and Client Development Coaching Program.
• Prepares the annual budget for Attorney Development department and monitors expense allocations.
• Manages internal and external training and development opportunities including vendor relationships.
• Manages the CLE Administrator and oversees the firm’s MCLE compliance and tracking functions in conjunction with the CLE Administrator.

Specific Skills Required:

• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong teamwork skills with a collaborative approach to working with others at all levels of seniority.
• Extensive knowledge of professional development, and law firms as an organization.
• Knowledge of MCLE rules and regulations in multiple states.
• Proficiency in CE Manager or other CLE tracking and learning management system
• Detail oriented and high attention to quality.
• Ability to organize and implement training programs.
• Ability to supervise and mentor junior staff.

Specific Skills Preferred:

Qualified candidates must have exceptional presentation, organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, analyze needs, evaluate alternatives and implement solutions.

Education and Experience:

Five-plus years in developing and implementing adult training programs encompassing all aspects of professional development focusing on issues involving training, feedback, mentoring, career progression, diversity, professional skills development, design models, upward review programs, and attorney integration, or equivalent. The ideal candidate would have either a JD or an MA in Organizational Development, or in a related discipline. Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.


This position will require regular travel.
