Meet the Presenters

Scott Westfahl, Faculty Director of  Harvard Law School Executive Education

Scott Westfahl is the Faculty Director of  Harvard Law School Executive Education and also teaches courses on problem solving, teams, networks and innovation as Professor in the law school's J.D. curriculum. 

As Faculty Director of Executive Education, Scott brings his years of experience as a professional development leader and former business and federal regulatory attorney to the role. Along with HLS Executive Education’s faculty and team, Scott leads the HLS effort to support and develop lawyers across the arc of their careers, particularly as they advance to new levels of leadership and responsibility. In addition, he oversees and teaches in Executive Education’s core, global leadership programs for law firm managing partners, emerging law firm leaders and General Counsel and collaborates with HLS colleagues and other Harvard faculty to design and teach custom programs for law firms, law departments and other legal-related organizations. Chosen as one of Law Firm, Inc. magazine's five "Innovators of the Year" in 1998, Scott focuses his Executive Education teaching and writing on leadership, the art of feedback, motivation and development of professionals, and organizational alignment from a talent management and diversity and inclusion perspective.

Avery Blank, Principal & Owner, Avery Blank Consulting

Avery Blank is the Principal & Owner of Avery Blank Consulting where she strategizes with individuals and companies worldwide to help them attain their business, leadership, career, and policy goals. She has worked in the public sector at all levels of government including experience at the Executive Office of the President of the United States, the private sector at Johnson & Johnson, and non-profit consulting with the University of Maryland Center for Health & Homeland Security. She graduated with a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law and B.A. from Colgate University.

Bloomberg Law, Stanford Law, the National Association of Women Lawyers, and the Maryland Daily Record have recognized Blank for her work in strategy, women’s leadership, and policy.

She co-authored with Scott Westfahl of Harvard Law School’s Executive Education Program a NALP article on how companies can leverage the talents of millennials and capture business opportunities. Blank is a Contributor with Forbes and The World Economic Forum, a Board Member with the American Bar Association’s Legal Career Central, and Advisor to The Wilson Center’s Women in Public Service Project. She is a Tribeca Disruptor Innovation Fellow and Aspen Ideas Festival Scholar. She’s been interviewed on NPR, and her work has appeared in journals and publications, including The Washington Post, Forbes, TIME, Fortune, Fast Company, LeanIn.Org, and Levo League. Blank has spoken at the U.S. Department of State, Oxford University’s Power Shift Forum, and Women in Strategy NYC Summit.
